MBABANE – The Ngwane National Liberatory Congress has warned police officers to refrain from assaulting political leaders and crime suspects in Eswatini.
This was communicated in a public statement.

Information gathered is that Thulani Motsa who is SPLM deputy President was assaulted by Manzini and Sigodvweni police who raided his home and took him to the police station without a warrant of arrest.

This comes after a new Swazi democracy movement called the New Parliament mobilized people to march in Manzini on 24 December 2020.

Police then retaliated and arrested leaders of who were organizing the march.

These include Sibongile Mazibuko, Phila Fakudze, Ncamiso Ngcamphalala and Thulani Motsa. Police also raided some of freedom Fighters’ homes.

Thulani Motsa was detained for the whole day in Manzini.

Ngwane National Liberatory Congress Secretary General Moses Ndlela said “Ngwane National Liberatory Congress is saddened by the way Eswatini police treat Swazi citizens who happen to speak against the regime of the country and ordinary Swazi citizens who happen to be crime suspects.”

Ndlela narrated,” As the NNLC,we believe that every suspect is innocent until proven guilty.

“The police do not have a right to torture and kill innocent suspects during interrogation as they continuously do so.”

“The suffocation of SPLM deputy president Thulani Motsa by the Eswatini Police was disgusting and uncalled for as nobody has a right to assault anyone as the law dictates.

He concluded, “As the NNLC, we demand that all the police who took part in the torture and humiliation of SPLM deputy president to be arrested. We demand justice for Thulani Motsa.”

High Court Judge, Cinisile Mabuza once warned Swazi police officers to refrain from assaulting suspects.

Eswatini Royal Police Commissioner William Dlamini also told police officers to refrain from assaulting suspects.
